![]() 11.18.04 - 11:08 pm Today I didn't reorganize my closet like I originally planned. It just struck me as being the biggest, lamest, most boring task on the face of the earth. So I did something better that made me feel super amazingly productive- I worked on painting Greek Pot #2! Almost a year ago, I painted a pot in a Greek fashion for a classic mythology class. I enjoyed it, and it turned out so nice that I decided to do a second one. So I bought a pot that matched the first, slapped a base coat of "georgia clay" brown on it, and... didn't touch it for 6 months. Then I painted the rough form of an amazon on it, and didn't touch it for 5 months. I suppose I just didn't get mentally or emotionally involved with pot #2 like I did with pot #1. I came up with the perfect idea for pot #1, and it had a deadline because of the class, so naturally it got done. However, with pot #2, I had no deadline. I came up with an idea for it, but I got bored with the idea and discarded it. I eventually decided to paint something with amazons, so I painted the form of one on the pot. At the time I couldn't decide what else to draw on it, so I avoided the pot for a while, then lost interest in it. The pot sat on the living room floor for months, the unfinished amazon taunting me with her state of incompleteness. So after waking up and deciding not to touch my bad closet, I mentally committed myself back to the pot. I looked through my old mythology textbook and constructed the monster for my amazons to battle: a three-headed lion with a snake for its tail. I'll have to see if snakes protruding from the lion's legs will look good when he's a bit more complete. See, to make a scary monster, the Greeks usually combined multiple animals or gave them extra limbs. I worked over the existing amazon a bit and roughly painted the forms of everything else. It's gonna be wicked cool! I'll explain the scenes on both pots in a future entry. I am quite thrilled that I accomplished so much today! And I really picked a good time to restart my work on this pot, as I currently have no other projects going on. From now forth, this pot will be my master until it is completed; I will have no desire to spend any free time on anything else. Art projects totally consume me once I really get into them. I haven't been consumed in a long time, and I must admit I forgot how good it feels. I may update less for a bit since I'll be too busy making sweet, sweet love with paint again! Good night!
